Researchers suggest that Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin, may never have ceased his activity. According to their findings, since 2019, funds from wallets created as early as 2010 have been periodically withdrawn.
The analytical tool BTCparser has tracked several such transactions. The wallets in question contained 50 BTC each, and the first coins, worth about $5 million, were moved in November 2019. Subsequent transactions took place in March and October 2020, amounting to $8 million and $13 million, respectively. In these cases, the addresses from which the transactions originated are once again linked to the wallets believed to belong to Satoshi Nakamoto, though this remains unconfirmed.
Interest in these transactions has grown amidst continued uncertainty about the true identity of Bitcoin’s creator. More and more cryptocurrency experts and analysts believe that Satoshi may still control a significant portion of the bitcoins mined in the early years of the network. This further fuels speculation that, despite possibly disappearing from the public eye, Satoshi may still influence the market or, at the very least, be watching the development of the cryptocurrency ecosystem.
“These observations lead me to suspect that the mysterious 2010 whale could indeed be Satoshi. […] However, this remains a theory, not a conclusion,” said the analyst. Moreover, such transactions could be part of a long-term strategy aimed at minimizing market impact or maintaining the anonymity of the holder.
