Binance founder Changpeng Zhao revealed the name of his Belgian Shepherd — Broccoli, triggering a wave of meme coins inspired by it.

Interest in the topic surged after CZ mentioned his pet and stated he would “take a day or two” to consider sharing more details.

Following his next post, the number of tokens named after Broccoli skyrocketed on platforms like Pump.fun and similar services.

As of writing, the DEX Screener aggregator tracks 30 such assets, while GeckoTerminal lists 10. In one instance, market capitalization exceeded $150 million.

“I never imagined Broccoli would become part of the blockchain ecosystem. […] There’s never a dull moment in crypto,” Zhao remarked.

CZ emphasized that he had merely shared a photo of his pet and had no plans to launch his own meme coin. However, he acknowledged that this could happen “if the community decides so.”

“I will likely interact with a few coins on BNB Chain. The BNB Foundation may support the best meme coins with liquidity or other rewards. […] More details coming soon,” he added.

The Broccoli frenzy led to increased network load on BNB Chain.

Notably, on February 12, BNB Chain developers unveiled their 2025 technical roadmap, highlighting a stronger focus on supporting meme coins.

Earlier, Binance analyzed key trends of 2024, identifying meme coins and AI agents as dominant narratives.
