The former CEO of the Bahamian division of the cryptocurrency exchange FTX, Ryan Salame, has filed a motion to withdraw his guilty plea in connection with a criminal case related to campaign finance violations.
Previously, Salame pleaded guilty to two charges as part of a plea deal. As part of this agreement, he requested that prosecutors cease their investigation into his girlfriend, Michelle Bond.
Salame claims that he admitted guilt based on this promise. However, he argues that the prosecution breached the agreement by continuing the investigation into Bond. As a result, Salame believes that his plea was coerced and based on false premises.
Salame’s attorneys have officially filed a motion requesting that his case be reviewed and the guilty plea be withdrawn. They argue that the breach of the agreement by the prosecution renders the plea invalid.
If the motion is granted, the case could be reopened, potentially altering the course of proceedings for both Salame and other involved parties, including Michelle Bond.
