SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce, widely known in the crypto community as “Crypto Mom,” has been appointed to lead the SEC’s Cryptocurrency Task Force. The announcement was made in an official press release.

“The task force, comprising talented professionals from across the agency, will work with the SEC and the public to establish a reasonable regulatory path forward for the industry,” the statement said.

The group’s primary objectives include drafting clear rules for the crypto market, organizing discussions, and implementing balanced enforcement measures.

The formation of the cryptocurrency task force is among the first initiatives of acting SEC Chair Mark Uyeda. His advisors, Richard Gabbard and Taylor Asher, have taken on key roles as Chief of Staff and Senior Policy Advisor, respectively.

“Until now, the SEC has largely relied on reactive and retroactive enforcement actions in regulating cryptocurrencies, often introducing new and untested legal interpretations along the way,” the press release highlighted.

It’s worth noting that in January, the SEC postponed a decision on Bitwise’s application to convert an index fund into an ETF by 45 days.
