The team behind the L1 blockchain Kaia, created based on South Korea’s and Japan’s leading messengers—Kakao and LINE—is preparing to launch its mainnet. Among its key features is the ability to create apps “in the style of Telegram,” reports The Block.

Kaia was introduced in April following the merger of the Klaytn network from Kakao and the Finschia network from LINE.

Kakao is a messenger used by 96% of South Korea’s population, playing a crucial role in their daily lives, from messaging to financial management.

LINE is the dominant messaging platform in Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand, actively expanding into fintech and AI-based services.

According to a press release, the combined user base of these two applications exceeds 250 million people, making their integration into the Kaia blockchain ecosystem a significant step in the development of Web3 in the Asian market.

“On August 29 [EST], the Kaia network—the world’s fastest EVM blockchain with one-second finality, ultra-low fees, and support from leading Asian partners including Kakao and LINE NEXT—will be launched,” the statement reads.

The Kaia network is expected to not only enhance user experience but also significantly expand the potential for Web3 adoption, thanks to its deep integration with the Kakao and LINE messengers, allowing users to seamlessly transition between traditional applications and blockchain products.

The team aims to create an ecosystem supporting DeFi, games, RWA, and dapps, while providing users with a familiar and user-friendly interface.

Kaia will allow developers to launch Telegram-style apps within LINE using its NEXT WEB software development kit, enabling LINE users to enjoy new features similar to those offered by Telegram directly within their familiar messenger.

“Low transaction latency, account abstraction, and fee delegation will provide a seamless user experience, reaching hundreds of millions of LINE users in Asia,” the press release highlights.

With the mainnet launch, the Kaia Wave developer support program will also begin. Teams using the NEXT WEB SDK will be eligible for marketing, technical, and business support amounting to $1.2 million per project. This, in turn, will encourage the creation of new innovative apps that will attract and retain users. TGE events and liquidity provision are also planned, further boosting interest in the ecosystem.

On August 28, HashKey Global announced the listing of Kaia, reflecting the growing interest in the project from major players in the cryptocurrency market.

It is worth noting that in December 2023, LINE’s subsidiary focused on NFTs, LINE NEXT, raised $140 million to develop its ecosystem, underscoring the company’s serious intentions in blockchain technology and Web3.
